Basil is a classic Thai restaurant I've been hearing a lot for years now but haven't really had the chance to try since I never had a real hankering for the cuisine. But after trying this restaurant, all I can say is I GET IT NOW. Read on to learn about my favorite!
Crispy Spring Roll ₱305
For starters we had their crispy spring rolls served with vinegar and sweet chilli sauce. It was okay as a starter for 3 people, it was a bit light so it didn't ruin our appetite for the next meals to come.
Pad Thai ₱425
Prior to Basil, I didn't really get why some people like pad thais so much. But now I do and I am one of them! Basil was able to perfectly balance the flavor of sweet (from the nutty flavor) and sour (lemon) that was missing from the other pad thais I've had before, and thus was able to eliminate the umay factor.
Thai Bagoong Rice ₱315
I also liked their Thai bagoong rice just because it just had a hint of bagoong that blends so well with the mango strips and does not overpower so you can still enjoy it with other main dishes.
Thai Red Beef Curry ₱550
Their Thai red beef curry was sooo aromatic! Sadly it was a bit lacking in terms of flavor. I was expecting a stronger curry taste and a thicker sauce since that's what I liked about the other Thai curry I've tried from a different restaurant.
Chicken with Cashew Nuts ₱375
The chicken with cashew nuts is one of their best-sellers but it was a little underwhelming for us. It's chicken strips and cashew nuts coated with a sweet and spicy glaze, which we're not a fan of. We probably would have enjoyed their emerald chicken more.
Their pricing is a little bit on the pricy side considering the serving size. All our orders were for 3 people only and our total bill was around ₱2,200. Nonetheless, I will definitely be back for their pad thai.
