Basic Vietnamese Dishes to Love at Pho 24
Everyone seems to have cough and colds these days, myself included. Since my throat has been sore for the past couple of days, I opted to have meals that are healthier and less oily. Hence, we ended up with having Vietnamese food.
Pho 24 is a small Vietnamese restaurant located at the Double Dragon Plaza in Pasay City. It's a restaurant you won't really discover until you've been to the place, because they don't have a lot of ads online, much less have very active social media accounts.
But since my newly rediscovered love for pho last year, I have already bookmarked Pho24 in case I have a sudden craving for the noodle soup.
Pho24 Beef Fillet P230 (large) |
On days like this, there's nothing I want more than a bowl of hot pho. It's just so perfect to soothe my itching throat. I love my pho plain (without all the added sauce), one in which I'll get a good taste of its broth and all its herbs, and this pho made the cut. It also had tender, thinly sliced beef that made it more enjoyable for me. We actually shared this large pho, but to be honest, I can finish this on my own, but without eating anything else.
Vermicelli Bowl with Fried Spring Rolls P170 |
It was also last year that I first got to try the Vietnamese Vermicelli noodle salad and liked it. Since then, every time I visit a Vietnamese restaurant, I made sure I ordered one. Pho24's version was not as delicious as the ones I've had before probably because it didn't have any other toppings aside from the spring rolls. But I did like the spring rolls they put on top. They compensated for what the noodle salad lacked in terms of flavor.
Fresh Spring Rolls P120 |
Finally, I tried to mix it up a little and switched my usual fried spring rolls to the fresh one, since I am trying to eat healthier these days. The fresh spring rolls had vermicelli, lettuce, pork, and shrimp wrapped in a thin rice paper, and served with peanut sauce. Although the two rolls may seem the same, they completely differ in taste. I prefer to have the fried ones with fish sauce dip, while my boyfriend likes the softer, smoother fresh rolls with peanut sauce.
Pho24 is like a fast food restaurant where you wait in line and order your food as you enter. You then sit down and wait for your food to be served, which does not take too much time, thanks to their simple menu.
I felt light and full at the same time after having lunch at Pho24. It's the nicest feeling to eat what you want, not feel guilty about it and just be happy, which I was! It also helped that the prices of the food here are so affordable, which let us order as much food as we want.
