During the days when I was still a teenager, I've always found it fun to savor everything that I eat and try to guess the ingredients and cooking method used to prepare each dish. Back then, I didn't know a lot of restaurants, but I do know Mesa, being one of my favorite Filipino restaurants in Manila.
Now that I've become a food blogger, I've become more familiar with all the different cuisines and all the different restaurants that offer them, but Mesa still remained a favorite. Now, that multi-award winning restaurant has opened their 43rd branch at SM's Mall of Asia (and gunning for 50).
Hito Flakes on Spoon P215 |
Soft bean curd topped with century egg and shrimp. This salad may not be your usual one with lots of greens, and it may not be one you may consider to be a classic Filipino dish, but it tasted amazing.
The swahe on the rocks is one of the most popular dishes in Mesa. The swahe are heated on top of hot rocks, which gives it a soft and smoky flavor.
Sauteed Crab in Olive oil and Garlic P180/100g (minimum 500g) |
Crab with Salted Egg Sauce P180/100g (minimum 500g)

Stir fried rice tossed with smoked fish flakes and topped with tomatoes and red salted egg.
If you're looking for something that's good for sharing, then the inihaw sampler is for you. An plate comes with grilled chicken leg quarter, squid, liempo, bangus belly, mussels, shrimps, and pork bbq.
2 ways, served with pandan crepes, wansuy, cucumber, leeks garnishes, and 3 sauces (rikki's choice, garlic mayo, spicy pork liver)
The crispchon was the most talked about dish of the night, as everyone enjoyed this Filipino version of the Peking duck wrap.
I honestly can't think of any favorite items from this visit at Mesa, but one thing's for sure: they were all delicious. No wonder why they have been winning numerous awards for the past couple of years.
