My brother asked me about a Korean BBQ place in Manila. After responding to his question, I found out that he and his girlfriend are planning to eat at an unlimited Samgyupsal place for dinner last Maundy Thursday. I was told I could come, but I had to look for a place that is open on this holiday. I did my homework and gave my brother a list. Out of all restaurants in my list, he chose Matgalne in Ortigas.
Okay, I was pretty excited, as there have been several attempts for us to try out this branch and all of those failed. I called the restaurant to reserve a table at 5:30pm (their opening time).
The unlimited beef and pork offer of Matgalne includes a reasonable amount of appetizers, side dishes, and drinks to choose from. There are also 13 different kind of meats (chicken, pork, beef, squid) in different kinds of marinade you can all try and enjoy for a price of P549 (dinner rate).
What made me like Matgalne Ortigas more than the other Korean BBQ restaurants I've tried is its setup. Most of those I patronize don't have the meat and side dishes laid out buffet style, but this Matgalne branch does. This makes it easier for customers to just take whatever they want whenever they want, and in whatever quantity, without having to wait for servers to bring it on their tables. The airconditioning system in the restaurant also functions well, so we didn't have to worry about wiping any sweat out of our faces during our whole stay.
Like all other Korean restaurants, Matgalne has a freezer filled with Korean ice cream to have for dessert, available at an additional cost. My brother got to try their Greek yogurt ice cream and he loved it.
