Tong Yang Plus at Mall of Asia Complex
It hasn't really been that long since I last paid a Tong Yang branch a visit, but that didn't stop me from being excited about the opening of another Tong Yang branch in SM Mall of Asia.
What makes this branch different? Judging from the addition of the word "plus" to this restaurant's name, I just assumed that it's going to be a bigger and possibly better Tong Yang. And I was right!
Last Thursday afternoon, I received a call from my mother wanting to have dinner with me and my siblings after work. And because she loves Tong Yang, I took it as an opportunity to finally get to try the newest venue for hot pot and smokeless grill within the area.
This Tong Yang branch is so huge! And it's got a great ambiance, too. I loved the use of assorted lighting fixtures that not only helped lit the place, but also gave it a more colorful, happy-go-lucky vibe.
In terms of food, Tong Yang Plus definitely has more food to offer than any regular branch. The choices for cooked food, cold meats available for cooking, desserts, and drinks are just too many that there is no way you can try even just a bit of every single one of them.
Another new feature of this branch is the hot pot soup. I haven't visited all branches, but this is the first I've tried where I had my own mini pot for my hot pot, which means that each person can have their own soup instead of the usual 2 per table.
Soup Choices: Laksa, Chicken, Sate, Sinigang (loved!), Malatang, Vegetable, Seafood, Chinese Herb
Sliced Meat Choices: Beef Chuck Eye Roll, Beef Karubi, Beef, Striploin, Pork Neck, Pork Belly
P.S. They have their own barbeque sauce at the meat station. You can ask the staff to put some all over the meat, plus a sprinkle of sesame seeds. It's good. They also have this along with other sauces at their sauce station. You can experiment on different ingredients to get the sauce/ dip that you'll love.
I was a bit disappointed with their desserts. I was interested in several of the desserts in the photo I took, which happened before our meal. When it was time for us to have desserts, the choices became fewer and less interesting (and they didn't taste that good). They also have a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, and small drawers full of different gummies.
Service was okay. The servers were nice, but since the whole area is huge, it was hard to look for a restaurant staff nearby, and it was hard to call their attention.

If you're planning on visiting a Tong Yang branch soon, I'd recommend that you head to this branch (or any Tong Yang Plus branch). Its got a wider spread of food to choose from, with just a minimal difference in price.
