Food reviews are very subjective. One's rating of a restaurant depends on their own preferences and several other factors like pricing, service, and such. This is why I give restaurants a visit even after reading negative reviews. But this time, I made a terrible experience after putting my trust in a restaurant I haven't heard nice things about.
Yayoi has been open in SM Megamall for quite some time now. Last week, they finally branched out and opened a second restaurant at SM Mall of Asia. My colleagues and I were thrilled to discover this, so we decided to give it a try on our next lunch out.
Aside from their fast and automated ordering system, Yayoi's pride is their teishoku. A teishoku is a set meal complete with rice, soup, vegetable side dish, pickles, and a main dish. Seeing that it is the obvious choice, I took a shot at their mix toji teishoku and salmon aburi roll, while my friends had their own selection from the jyu meals.

The salmon aburi roll tasted okay. Each roll was topped with torched salmon, but the stuffings of the maki overshadowed the taste of the salmon.

There was nothing spectacular about any part of the teishoku. The side veggies tasted weird, and the mains tasted okay. My major concern about my order was how SMALL the serving was. For the price I paid, I expected to walk out with a heavy tummy. Instead, I walked out with a heavy heart, feeling robbed!

I'm not discouraging you to try Yayoi. I'm just trying to write about my frustrating experience, so you know what to expect. You can still try their jyu, which seemed to have a larger serving than my teishoku, but at a lower price.
