My New Favorite at Manam Filipino Comfort Food

by - Friday, October 06, 2017

Manam is one of the most recognized names when it comes to classic Filipino comfort food. My visits to this restaurant can only be counted with one hand, but although few, these visits have been significant in my standards for the cuisine.

The Manam branch in MOA has been revamped recently, and we've been seeing several of their posters around the mall when we ate out one Friday. My boss has never tried Manam, and she wanted to give it a try, so we decided to have lunch there the following week.

The very first item on our order list was their famous house crispy sisig. We also had their beef salpicao & garlic, gising-gising, sizzling corned beef belly kansi, and a large bowl of white rice.

House Crispy Sisig P255 (M)

Chopped pork jowls and cheek, topped with chicharon bits and served on a sizzling plate. Manam's house crispy sisig has always been on my table every time I visit the restaurant, so you can just imagine all the love I have for it that made me order it over and over again. But on this visit, I noticed a grave decline in the quality of their sisig. The profound flavor I expected wasn't there, plus the chicharon bits outnumbered all the other ingredients.

Gising Gising P365 (L)
Sigarilyas and kangkong cooked in coconut cream, chilis, pork, and bagoong saute. I loved the gising gising. It was also insanely spicy, but in a good, appetite boosting way. Extra rice, please!

Beef Salpicao and Garlic P595 (L)

Tender beef cubes cooked in garlic and oil, garnished with more fried garlic bits. We all loved the tenderness of the meat, and how it was able to absorb all the flavors of the dish.

Sizzling Corned Beef Belly Kansi P495 (M)
I just noticed how expensive this is! lol. I was the one who ordered the sizzling corned beef belly kansi, and I really didn't see its price before I suggested it. Good thing we liked it. It wasn't the sizzling kansi I expected that had little sauce. This one had an enough amount of sauce to call it a soup! The sourness of the kansi was on point.

The new Manam is pretty spacious, but still gets full in minutes.

My experience with Manam this time around was good in total, although the change in their sisig's taste is a big disappointment. I can see myself coming back to the restaurant again in the hopes that they only failed me once.
