Cafe Shibuya
3/F Glorietta 2, Glorietta Complex, Makati City
We often pass by this small cafe along Glorietta 2 and every time we do, I always glance at their menu and get instantly convinced on trying one item. I never got the chance to drop by, until last Sunday, when we were on our way to SM Makati and saw Cafe Shibuya again. Perfect timing! We were hungry and had no restaurants planned for lunch yet, which led to the spur of the moment decision to dine here.
What was that one item I've been intrigued on trying? Well, it's their crispy pork belly with kimchi rice. Of course, that's what I ordered, while my boyfriend chose their tebasaki chicken.
Tebasaki Chicken P240 |
•With white rice P240
•With kimchi rice P285
Juicy fried chicken with thin and crispy skin. What looked dry and unappealing on the outside turned out to be one good dish with the help of their sauce. The chicken alone was okay, but things change the moment you pair it with their tebasaki sauce.
Crispy Pork Belly with Kimchi Rice and Egg P315 |
This dish was served with a magic sauce made of soy sauce, sake, and sugar, among other ingredients. The tender pork belly had an even distribution of fat and meat that complemented each other. The kimchi rice packed a little kick of spiciness, but one that is manageable even by someone with weak tolerance on spicy food like me.
Each of the dishes is enough to ultimately satisfy a person's hunger. Their serving of the rice was more than one cup, and still I was able to finish it with meat to spare. If you want something heavy, I strongly suggest that you get their rice meal, as their pasta's serving is smaller (I saw one order).
I didn't expect too much from Cafe Shibuya, but based from this visit, I was encouraged to patronize restaurants that are not under the limelight more than the ones that are.
My score:
Pricing – 3.5/5
