Dessert Comes First: 1028 Kitchen Place
1028 Kitchen Place
Solenad 3, Nuvali Sta. Rosa, Laguna
After the countless restaurants that we’ve been to on our Bonifacio Day food crawl, we were down to our last stop for dinner at Nuvali. We were only supposed to have dinner here, but after walking out from Nonna’s, a couple of us thought of having desserts. I still have no idea how our tummies were able to agree with our brains about this, but it happened.
We saw the perfect place after a few meters, since this café is just a store away from Nonna’s, and it just opened a few days ago.
We checked out the menu and were entertained by their server. We were then invited in to have a look at the cakes available at their display fridge and we were convinced.
We ordered their yemango and chocolate mousse cakes.
Some of us ordered coffee, and these were the first ones served. After some time, we were served with a small plate of baked spaghetti for a free taste. It was okay. It’s your usual spaghetti. We followed up on our orders, only for the server to come back and say that there are no chocolate mousse cakes available. We were shocked because we saw the cake slices in the fridge prior to settling down. The server reasoned out that the cakes were already ordered even before we came in. Hmmm.. And we were just informed minutes after.
Yemango Sans Rival Cake P150 |
This was delicious. The phrase “save the best for last” clearly applies on this one. The yema was not too overpowering and sweet and had the right flavor. The mangoes were not sour. There was also a hint of cinnamon. The layers were arrange like that of a crepe cake. There was a layer that tasted like leche flan, although I’m not sure if this was the yema. The only flaw in this masterpiece is the structure of the cake: it easily collapses. Perhaps it’s because of the size of the cake?
The ambiance of the place is simplistic, with tablewares of different sizes and designs on the wall. Even the restroom was clean. The servers were nice from start to finish, except for that mistake he had.
Overall, putting the server’s mistake aside, I enjoyed my experience here. Servers were friendly, the ambiance was likeable, and the cake was delicious, thus, the 4/5. Plus, who knows, that chocolate mousse might not even be yummy lol. And maybe we didn’t need another dessert after all.
My score:
Pricing – 3/5
Service – 3/5
Ambiance – 5/5
Taste – 4/5
