Tiny Corner: Plana's Pantry
Plana's Pantry
G/F, RC Building, Domingo M. Guevarra St., Mandaluyong City
We were heading to a party in the afternoon, so we decided to have lunch somewhere on the way to the location if the party and landed with Plana's Pantry.
It's a small restaurant that can fit only about 20 customers. From the beautiful lantern lightings to the strong words of wisdom found in paintings, this pantry surely deserves people's attention.
We arrived the restaurant a little after lunch and we didn't expect the place to be crowded. But there we were, surprised to see the small and busy pantry. We were then told that we were first on the waiting list and had us wait outside (there were small chairs and tables available). We were then given the menu so we can order and so they can prepare them while we were waiting.
We ordered the ham and eggs, beef salpicao, and avocado mambo for dessert.
Ham and Eggs P170 |
This was served with pesto rice. What I loved about this dish is that their ham was a bit saltier than the usual ham I've tasted.
Beef Salpicao P240 |
I was torn between ordering the sisig (one if the best sellers according to the menu) and the beef salpicao, so I asked the help of the server and he recommended the latter. This was okay. It was also served with pesto rice, but it's not the best salpicao I've had. The beef was marinated well enough to taste a bit sweet and salty, and not bland.
Avocado Mambo P65 (single) |
I believe one of the reasons customers visit Plana's Pantry is because of this (that's what I've read). I wasn't really looking forward to trying this, and I'm not an avocado lover, but since I'm already there then I figured, why not? To cut the story short, I can't believe I enjoyed this dessert even if I wasn't even planning on enjoying it. You can taste the avocado (although not strong), and the ice cream wasn't too milky either. It had bits of sugar cookies (or more of biscuits) that gave the dessert the added texture and flavor.
I thought the serving was huge. It looked huge, but it wasn't that heavy. The single scoop of the ice cream was definitely enough for a person. Service was excellent.
Thinking back, I wish I was craving for ribs during my visit. It looked delicious and I guess it's also the popular choice of customers. Maybe you should try this.
My score:
Pricing – 4/5
Service – 4/5
Ambiance – 4/5
